MIRVALD: CIRCUMSTANCES ARE DRIVING ME AHEAD OF THE FRONT LINE

Defender Petr Mirvald came on in the second half of Saturday’s match in Haná. In an interview, he spoke about how the game unfolded after the break and the disallowed goal, which was similar to the one he scored away at Zlín.

You came on in the second half with the aim of turning the game around. What were the instructions?

The aim was clear. To try and settle the game, get on the ball and try to turn the match around somehow.

Olomouc protected their lead after the break and played with experience. Was it a bit more difficult against them when they didn’t have to rush anywhere and weren’t needlessly opening up any spaces?

From my point of view, Olomouc took their foot off the gas. They were focused on the fact that they held a two-goal lead, so they just tried to protect it. But I think the match could have turned in our favour in the second half. We had two or three chances when the score was 2–0; if we’d made the most of them, the course of the match might have been different.

You even managed to get a shot on goal yourself, but it wasn’t allowed for offside. Was that a typical move for you, though? You scored your first goal in a similar way.

I don’t know why, but on the pitch I’m always drawn to taking the ball on or running into the box towards the near post. To get on the end of the ball whilst also causing chaos in front of goal amongst the opposition’s defence.

Generally speaking, we didn’t create too many chances to score in the match. Was that down to the quality of the opposition?

I think we knew full well how Sigma would play. Unfortunately, we didn’t keep a tight enough lid on them in the first half. After the break, things were a bit better, not just at the back but up front as well, though there was still room for improvement. Sigma have a quality side, and I think that if we’d gone into the match with the same courage to play as we did against Slavia, the result might have been more favourable.
